MXR M76 Studio Compressor

So what should a compressor do in general? Imagine the volume range of your playing, the loudest louds and the quietest quiets. Not only is there a volume difference, but there's a tone difference between the two playing styles. A compressor will squish those volume differences closer together while maintaining those tones. In some ways this is great, and in some ways, it becomes a little stale as everything has the same volume, and it doesn't saturate and respond like we think a tube amp should, and I say tube amp because that's the sound we tend to associate with a guitar.
